Fine Line

On one side, eggshells,
on the other, slick ice.
The line between fear and arrogance
is so slender a division,
that balancing upon it slices the soles.
One is always tempted to step one way or the other.

  1. Interesting concept here. it conjures up an image of a person (or me) walking upon a razor -- sharp and ready to cut me if I glide to swiftly over its blade -- with the only two choices (other than the razor) leaving much to desire. A conundrum, no doubt...

  2. Thank you, Samantha—exactly, and exacting.

  3. Really? I got it right? I always had the "weird" interpretations to poems in my higher education courses...I like to call them creative themes. ;-)

    1. "Divergent thinkers of the world: Unite!" would be oxymoronic, wouldn't it? My "unique" literary interpretations get squints and cocked eyebrows, but I figure if I can justify 'em, I'm entitled, right?

    2. It's true, Kathryn, if you can justify your interpretations, all should go swimmingly with Professor Imarockstar. But it isn't always so, is it? (unfortunately) Many times I've had to choose between writing what I really think and writing what I am fairly certain my professor would like me to think when interpreting a work of great literature or poetry. The best professors do not penalize students for a well justified interpretation that does not fit their "politically correct standard" view. Sadly, the best aren't the majority...

    3. Thank goodness I was a music major! (I'll probably never get a chance to say THAT again...) But I think I did have a few Prof Rockstars; justifying an historical harmonic analysis was just as bad. Nowadays, I'M the one who decides the rockstar status!
